What are the differences between Bumper Plates and Iron Plates?

Both are weight plates used to workout. Both can be used to do any weight training lift.  In terms of difference, the metal plates are made of iron, while the bumper plates are made of rubber.  The rubber plates are more quiet and protect the floors. The rubber bumper plates are made to drop, meaning the barbell can be released whether it be thigh high like at the top of a deadlift, or uo over the head like at the top of a clean and jerk. The iron plates are louder, but since iron is more dense than rubber, the iron plates are usually thinner.  This thickness difference usually only matters if you are working out with extreme weight.  If you are a powerlifter deadlifting 700 lbs for example, then iron plates will likely be better suited for you.  For most people, bumper plates are a great option
